Taste more flavours of Peru with Samba’s signature starters promotion available during Lunch from July 1 to September 30, 2018. Order a two-course meal and enjoy a second signature starter of your choice from the Signature Starter Menu for free. The two-course meal should be a starter and a main dish to qualify for the promotion.
A starter can be any one item from the Ceviche, Piqueos, and Auticucheria menu. Pair it with any item from the mains and you’ll be entitled to a complimentary “free” starter of your choice from the Samba Signature Starters Menu.
The promotion is per table, not per 2-course meal, so order accordingly. Be sure to mention the promotion to your server as the Signature Starters Menu isn’t advertised in the restaurant.
To start, I ordered the Empanadas de Lomo a beef puff-pastry stuffed with U.S. Beef tenderloin and sided with chimichurri salsa. My previous post on social media of my visit to Samba had several of my friends comment about their delicious empanadas, and that prompted me to try it out for myself. Yes, it’s definitely premium in taste and texture, which is reflected in its price tag, but something of this quality deserves it.
For my complimentary starter, I choose the Chicharon de Cangrejo a soft shell crab battered and deep-fried to a crisp, but moist on the inside. On the side is a pineapple dip with sarza criolla for a bit of spice. This is a great starter for larger groups, enough for 3-4 people to share.
Make sure to call and reserve a table on the veranda for a true Samba Manila dining experience. Get comfortable and groove to the Latin American tunes that play throughout the afternoon. Have a drink or two, I recommend the Sexy Colada for you, served in a fresh pineapple fruit for that tropical vibe by the poolside.
A crowd favourite and a personal must order is the Arroz Con Pato – a crisp duck confit on a bed of Peruvian Paella coloured and flavoured by cilantro and green peas. The dish is portioned for sharing, but you’ll quickly realise that it’s not after your first taste. This is one of those dishes you can’t seem to have enough of, or ever not order when given the opportunity. Arroz Con Pato is a staple dish when dining at Samba.
Dishes that I also enjoy during lunchtime at Samba are the Arroz Con Mariscos (Seafood Paella) for its incredibly creamy and refined texture, and the Canilla de Cordero a tender and savoury lamb shank, slow-cooked to a delight, best shared with 2-3 people as a meal in Samba can get heavy on the belly.
Samba’s dishes are portioned for sharing, so a table of 2 to 3 people will easily be satisfied with 2 main dishes, an appetiser, plus the complimentary starter. That line-up totals to a bill just around PHP 2,000 for a meal, split that 2 or 3 ways and dining at a hotel restaurant now becomes affordable.
