I was in search for an affordable hotel in Bali within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, in order to cost-effectively accumulate nights to achieve Platinum elite status. Not only did I find a hotel that fit my budget, but I also found it to be a gem.
Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road had set their opening date on November 16, 2019 – but to my surprise, a limited inventory of rooms were already bookable on Marriott’s website for as early November 1. I took the opportunity and booked a 3-night stay beginning November 4th to sample the property – long story short, I loved everything about my experience, which convinced me to reserve additional stays accumulating to over 13 nights in total. Yes. My schedule is flexible enough to allow for such a decision.
Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road is located just 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport. The property is not located near a beach, but it is conveniently situated on Sunset Road, one of the main thoroughfares on the island, making it easy to get around Bali. If your purpose is to explore Bali, then this practical and centrally located address is perfect for you.
Premium Pool View Room
The Premium Pool View Room of Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta measures just 30 square meters, but the design makes it feel much more spacious. A special feature of the Premium Pool View room is that it’s located on the same level as the swimming pool on level 1, which means you get direct pool access and even a private patio with a day bed.
The room layout is designed to allow the bathroom to enjoy natural light during the day, which is excellent for personal grooming. All deluxe rooms at the Fairfield Bali Kuta have either a queen or twin-single beds with no option for a rollaway bed. Only the Deluxe Corner Pool View Room (44 sqm.) has the space for an extra-bed.
Recommended Premium Pool View (level 1 only) and Deluxe Pool View (level 2, 3, 5, 6) room numbers: 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 35 (indicated in above floor plan) are equipped with the small work / coffee table.
The are only 4 units of the highest category room, the Corner Deluxe Pool View; none of them have direct pool access and are located on levels 3 and 5.
- 43 inch LED TV with screen mirroring
- Electric water kettle
- Drinking water dispenser
- Rubber slippers
- Iron and ironing board
- Bluetooth speaker / alarm clock
The in-room water drinking dispenser is provided in every room instead of single-use plastic water bottles. I appreciate the environmental solution and the convenience of having a lot more drinking water available.
The ensuite bathroom features a walk-in shower closet equipped with both a rainfall and handheld shower head. The toilet while not enclosed is positioned in a nook by the window to the right of the vanity. The toilet is installed with a manual bidet integrated into the seat. The single vanity is fitted with a large wash basin and above it is a spacious ledge for your belongings. The entire bathroom is separated from the bedroom with a large frosted glass sliding door, that filters in soft natural light to the bedroom, which means it is impossible to have a totally dark room during day time. It’s no bother to me as it provides a soothing transition from dark to bright in the morning, but such may be a problem for those who want to wake-up later in the day.
In an effort to reduce environmental waste Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta has installed pump bottle toiletries to eliminate the need for single-use plastic containers. Essential bathroom amenities are available and are delivered upon request. The hotel practices daily evening turndown service. I would recommend that they have a printed list of available amenities, which you can then encircle for the housekeeping to stock, similar to the “Hyatt has it” program of Grand Hyatt and Park Hyatt hotels. However, the housekeeping staff has always been quick to deliver my requested items.
- Sensatia Botanicals branded toiletries in dispensers
Items upon request:
- Bamboo dental kit
- Cotton earbuds
- Shaving kit
Jejaton is the main restaurant of the Fairfield Bali Kuta, which offers full-breakfast buffet in the morning and a la carte for lunch and dinner.
Full Breakfast Buffet: 65,000 IDR (~5 USD) per person. 6 AM to 11 AM daily.
Breakfast is a simple soread but presented in a neat and appetising setup. Expect beef sausages and beef bacon as the usual, a modest Indian section, a made-to-order egg station, and a noodle station. I appreciate the seasonal fruit selection with at least 6 kinds on offer. The pastry section offers a variety of western favourites and local delicacies. Overall, it’s a good breakfast buffet worth waking up to in the morning.
Ambiance is modern and the vibe is relaxed, table spacing is adequate. Outdoor seating is also available, which overlooks the swimming pool.
Many thanks to Indah and Intan for always making my numerous visits in Jejaton pleasant.
Below are my favourite dishes from Jejaton:
The on-site gym is open 24 hours daily, equipments include the standard cardiovascular and resistance machines, and a basic set of free weights. The gym is spacious, which makes working out a relaxing experience. The treadmills look out into the central courtyard where the pool and restaurant are located.
Great for swimming laps or for a relaxing dip. There aren’t many sun loungers available, so you have to be early to secure a spot.
Airport transfer is 150,000 IDR (~11 USD) net per way.
A GraCar ride will cost around 50,000 IDR per way including the toll-way (charged to your account). I recommend arranging arrival transfers with the hotel, which usually makes my arrival smoother, at the very least the hotel knows when I’m arriving and possibly will prearrange my room.
Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road is a practical hotel in Bali featuring delicious local cuisine, vibrant hospitality, and the amenities you need. Every associate in the hotel I met displayed a sincere eagerness to make you feel welcomed. This property is a perfect example of “simple, yet great” with no excuses. Happy to have found my home in Bali.
